Project Runway: Who doesn’t love Heidi Klum when she says ‘auf wiedersehen’? This show is for your inner designer. As you follow the trials and tribulations of these budding designers, you can exercise your own excellent taste, making clever quips to your friends about how plastic and pleats are so not cool. The show is really quite a riot; do make sure to set your DVR recorder so you can enjoy all the details (in high definition, of course).
America’s Next Top Model: Another truly entertaining reality show. Tyra Bank’s wild style changes are half of the fun. The other half is the cat fighting and the crying. And then you’ve got the brilliantly styled photo shoots and the makeovers. For any fashion fan, this show is chalk full of laughs; it is definitely a fashionista’s secret indulgence. Be sure to catch this one on satellite TV.
Gossip Girl: This teenage soap opera set in New York is all drama, all clothes. Probably about 75% of the show is about the clothes; the outfits are chic, simple and stylish. Even though half the time the cast is in private school garb, they manage to mix and match accessories with stunning aplomb. Of course, the high school intrigue, the steamy love affairs, and the general backstabbing go together perfectly with the show’s chic wardrobe.
Ugly Betty: Betty La Fea, played by America Ferrera, is a kind hearted and unglamorous girl who happens to get a job as a personal assistant to Daniel Meade, editor in chief at Mode magazine. Betty is completely out of place in the world of high fashion. She sports thick glasses and dental braces; her clothes are frumpy and awkward-stuff you could see your granny wearing on any given day. Moreover, her family is beset by numerous problems. However, Betty Suarez is intrepid and she carries on with grace and style.
Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style: Tim Gunn is, of course, known for being the doting mentor on Project Runway. After he won over the hearts of fans across the country, he was given his very own show. The first season followed Tim Gunn and cohost, model Veronica Webb, as they met style challenged guests. Gunn dishes out style advice and creates brilliant new looks. He coaches his guests to look great and feel great.
