Popcorn – a snack that goes back to the very roots of America. Once a food popped in heated sand by Native Americans, it’s hard to imagine life now without popcorn. Here are a few things to know before going out to buy a popcorn machine.
You’re going to have to decipher what it is you want from your machine – the amount of work you want to put into popping your popcorn, the room you have for machines, the capacity you want, and how efficiently a machine will pop popcorn for you. The more expensive a machine is, the higher it will be in quality, which means you will be able to get more use out of it. You can buy poppers from single serving machines to theatre sized machines – even ones that will provide you with a steady supply of popcorn if you are having a party!
There are several types of popcorn machines to choose from. There is the classic popcorn basket which is good for over an open fire, like camping or even barbecue, and stove top as well. A stove top popper, on the other hand, is like a sauce pan with a handle to turn the popcorn with as its popcorn. This can come in handy when making things like kettle corn, where you have to keep the kernels constantly moving to make sure that the sugar won’t burn.
Air poppers are a popular machine for popping popcorn – they don’t take up much room on the counter, and pop with warm air rather than using oils. This makes a much healthier snack for those who are concerned about calories. For those who do enjoy the convenience of the microwave to pop their popcorn, there are microwave popcorn poppers which will pop kernels at your discretion without the processed additives the microwave popcorn bags come in. And lastly, someone who holds many movie nights in their home may want to buy a theatre popcorn maker. They come in several household sizes, and can add an eclectic touch to your home.
